According to the State of Florida, the “GPA” for Lake County High Schools fell to 2.43 in 2011 from 2.71 in 2010.
“Overall, we’re encouraged with the grades,” Superintendent Susan Moxley said in a news release. “We’re exhibiting an overall trend of academic improvement. These results validate the strategies we have in place, in addition to the hard work of our teachers and principals, to adapt to the changing landscape of more rigorous standards and assessments.”
Small wonder Lake County Schools are reaching for the bottom. The Superintendent doesn’t know how to calculate a grade point average.
Glad you brought up the bargaining. Since we know some of the School Board members read this blog, they will now take a closer look at the hourly or daily rate as opposed to simply the annual rate. Which is exactly what the point was. It is easily overlooked in the grand scheme of budgets. Thanks for your assistance.
What does what you posted have anything to do with the original post saying that Lake County School Board employees are being paid for Christmas and spring breaks. Looks like you might be an idiot too.
Did you know that school board employees bargain for their contracts, how long they are going to work and how much they will be paid for that work? You, in your infinite wisdom mentioned Seminole County. They do not bargain for their contracts, they just have to take what their school board gives them.

Not sure what the fuss is about. Before you say someone should be slapped, it seems to me that there are an average of 260.7 working days in a calendar year. Someone posted that a 12 month employee at Lake School only works 247 days. Compare that to the 258 days a similar employee in Seminole County works. Now look at the daily rate of pay for two people making the same annual salary. While I would not call it welfare, there is clearly a benefit in getting and extra two weeks off per year. So, while you may not technically be paid for the time off, you are making comparable compensation to surrounding areas that work 11 days more for the same money.
You are a moron! What are you trying to do, just stir up stuff you know nothing about? Why don’t you let everyone know where you get your information?
No employees are paid for Spring Break or Christmas days off!
School employees are divided into different categories according to the days they work. All categories have their pay adjusted so they receive a pay check every two weeks. Even though they receive a paycheck for the same amount during that time, they are not being paid for it. Teachers also have the option to receive a paycheck every two weeks even throughout the summer receiving the same amount every two weeks.
Just for your general knowledge and to help you speak a little more intelligently during shuffleboard or bridge club, as posted on the LCSB website, there are various categories of worker with the school system. NONE ARE PAID FOR CHRISTMAS OR SPRING BREAK! They are:
186-day Non-instructional positions
196-day Instructional positions
216-day 11-month calendar positions
247-day 12-month calendar positions
and maybe even more that even I don’t know about…
Does this mean that our Lake County Teachers don’t work during the summer and still get paid for it? Shhh… Don’t tell anyone.

When are you going to do an article showing how many of the Lake County School personnel are getting paid for the holiday break (along with Spring Break) when surrounding counties do not do that. This makes the daily rate of pay one of the highest in the state.

Why are the Mount Dora council members so hell bent on taking access away from the Lakes of Mount Dora to a public, taxpayer funded street. They are bullying this issue through and not even discussing restitution for loss of service. There is the good old boy network in it’s worst form as the POA Pres of Lancaster at Loch Leven works for the city and one of the council member’s daughter lives in that sub division. The issue was not even supposed to be brought up at the last council meeting but lo and behold they railroaded an approval through to draft an ordinance to shut access to a public road. Lakes of Mount Dora will eventually have over 900 homes of mid to high value and if we are to be so ill served by Mount Dora, we would be better off being annexed back to Eustis.

This is my first post on this site. I usually read it for comedic purposes, but in my opinion, this is a serious issue.

colleges for at least a generation. Here is why I ask:
Marion County Schools were open on Veterans Day.
Lake County Schools did not lower the Flag on Pearl Harbor Day.
I have a child in kindergarten and first grade in Lake County Schools. The morning of December 7th I lowered my flag, and my kids asked me why I was doing it, and I explained it to them. I’m trying to teach them to be patriotic as my Father taught me.
I then drove them to school and the school flag was not at half-staff, so I told them to tell their teacher when they got to class. Apparently my kindergartener did not, but my first grader did and according to him his teacher did not even respond. His is in first grade so I will take his answer with a “grain of salt”. Though the flag was still not at half-staff when I picked them up after school.
I also noticed that the School Board building did not have their flag at half-staff either so I stopped in to inquire. I requested the Superintendent, or a School Board member to meet with me, but apparently they were unavailable. The lady that came out said that they only lower the flag on orders of the President or the Governor. I then explained to the educator that it has already been ordered per the US Flag Code. I offered to get her a copy, but she refused and said she would look it up.
I drove bye a few hours later fully expecting to see the Flag at Half-Staff, and to my surprise it was not.
What kind of an example is this to our children? Do the schools no longer teach kids to be patriotic? Do they still say the pledge in the mornings? This is shameful at the very least, and a “kick in the teeth” to all our boys that never made it home after December 7, 1941.

Meanwhile back at the BCC his friend Campione is still worried about dogs and twiddling her thumbs waiting for this term to be over with! She said she was only going to do one term to get this mess straightened out remember. Well she’s been there over a year now and so far sexual offenders and dogs have got most of her attention!

COMMISSIONER CONNER BELIEVES A $500. FIRST OFFENSE FINE TO HARSH!
At the urging of Commissioner Leslie Campione, the Commission will consider an anti-tethering ordinance that will make it illegal to chain an animal from a single point and the fine for the first offense will be $500.
Commissioner Jimmy Conner believes a $500 fine for a first offense when some
owners may not even be aware of the new law is too harsh a punishment for first
offenders.
Mr Conner~ First you should know after all these years at the public trough, ignorance of any law is not a defense!
However, if you believe a $500 fine is too harsh a penalty for the first offense, may we offer you a remedy.
Let us select a group of people to tie you to a tree or other single point and leave your there preferably in the hot sun without food and water for an undetermined period of time.
The clicker is, that period of time must be a least the minumun of time the trial animal owners tied the victim to the single point. At the end of this period we will then allow you to make the determination as too whether or not you have been there long enough so we will know what period of time to make the mandatory tie up in place of what you believe is the excessive $500 fine!

I’m certain that this information is public knowledge. You should try exercising your freedoms as a tax paying citizen and attend the public meetings where important issues like this are discussed instead of sniping at our local leadership. I would just like to educate you on a few things.First the city has approximately $1,330,665.00 in general reserves. This is 11.9 of the yearly budget which this money is set aside for in case of any major issue. The GFOA recommends 5% to 20%. There is also no line of credit in which you mentioned. Administrators step down amid Penn State scandal ~ Mirrors Green Isle Ranch Investigation!
Top Penn State officials charged with covering up allegations of an explosive child-sex abuse scandal related to a former defensive coordinator stepped down late Sunday after an emergency meeting of the university’s Board of Trustees.
Curley and Schultz were charged Saturday after a grand jury investigation of former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. He’s been charged with sexually abusing eight boys over 15 years.
“This is a case about a sexual predator who used his position within the university and community to repeatedly prey on young boys,” state Attorney General Linda Kelly said Saturday.
The allegations against Sandusky, who started The Second Mile in 1977, range from sexual advances to touching to oral and anal sex. The young men testified before a state grand jury that they were in their early teens when some of the abuse occurred; there is evidence even younger children may have been victimized. Sandusky’s attorney Joe Amendola said “his client has been aware of the accusations for about three years” and has maintained his innocence.
So it takes three years to bring these atrocities to light! How long will it take Governor Scott’s investigation into the allegations of the sexual abuse and rapes of the boys at Sheriff Gary Borders Green Isle Ranch? The Governor ordered the FDLE to investigate these allegations which were covered up by Borders but, Borders long time friend and former Sheriff’s association spokesman and then FDLE’s spokesman Tom Berlinger simply covered up the cover up! Once the Governor’s legal team found out Berlinger was an insider and long time Borders friend from the old jail days, Berlinger ducked his tail, took retirement and was off to his Longmont, Colorado mountainside villa.
The reason these cases take so long to resolve is because so many people, even eye witnesses lie about what they have seen, turn their heads on the victims and protect the aggressors at all cost! Mostly over money! Everyone who lies does so because they believe they have something to lose!
As in the Green Isle Boys Ranch sex abuse and rapes which span over twenty years the victims have begged and begged for redress! Gary Borders has blocked their cries at ever step of the way! Just like the long ongoing Penn State crimes that have taken years to come to light, the people of Lake County and the victims of Green Isle as well as some victims of sexual abuse in the Lake County Jail (eyewitnesses lied about some of this) deserve their day before the Grand Jury to bring the truth about these atrocities to light. There was not politics involved in 1987 when Borders and his Bridges of America friend Don Brown started the Green Isle Boys Ranch and there is not politics involved now! Just like always, it’s all about the victims who have been abused over and over and over again! In there lives these nightmare’s never go away, they sleep with them and they wake with them! Many of these victim’s were between the ages of 11 and 15 when they were abused!
Want you please join the victim’s of the Green Isle Boys Ranch and call or email Governor Rick Scott to the attention of Warren Davis and ask him how the Green Isle Ranch Investigation is progressing and when will they be releasing the outcome of that investigation!
Just as with the Penn State scandal – The Green Isle Boys Ranch and the Lake County Jail sex allegations all boil down too – who knew what and when did they know it! Why did they lie to the officials investigating these allegations? Are they ready to tell the truth this time! The officials know you lied and could have charged you for lying but chose not to do so.

They are satisfying this requirement with a letter of bank credit. Given the current state of the financial institutions that letter of bank credit might not be worth the paper it’s written on! Would you like some more facts concerning the financial stability of the city of Tavares? The fact is little ole Mascotte is only $5 million in bond debt and contemplating bankruptcy, lets wait and see how deep in debt Drury and the garbage mafia man can get us before we have to file for bankruptcy! The Seaplane Pilots Assn. of Florida held their yearly meeting this past weekend at Lakeside Inn in (MT DORA) their website gives the rundown , (wonderfully sucessful) great time had by all in attendence,(ALL 40 OFTHEM) yes thats right 40 FORTY people attended. Iam just trying to establish , Is this the forty people that John Drury spent millions trying to lure to Tavares? Minutes after the conference, Hays released a statement denying that he told two nurses and a regional manager for a nonprofit AIDS health-care program Wednesday that his cousin was “queer as a three-dollar bill” and “had that homosexual lifestyle and deserved what he got.”
Hays denies making the statement, saying that while he’s “known for being plain-spoken” and speaking his mind, he is outraged that people are “making these claims against me.”

But Wednesday’s accusation is the second time this year Hays has come under fire in public for anti-gay slurs. During debate over an anti-bullying bill in March, several students said Hays told them they needed psychological treatment because they’re gay.
At the time, The Fort Myers News-Press reported that Hays confirmed his meeting with the students and commenting about them needing psychological treatment. But it also reported that Hays couldn’t recall saying he was “repulsed” by homosexuals, which the students claimed at the time.
“The best way that I can explain that [is] I asked them if they wanted to know what I thought and they said ‘yes, they did,’ and I told them what I thought,” Hays said Friday. “They too made false accusations about me.” Hays said Friday he couldn’t remember precisely what he told the students. Remarkable. Apparently there is some conspiracy afoot whereby two separate and completely unrelated groups have just decided to falsely accuse Hays of making off-the-cuff anti-gay statements. What are the chances of that?
The 2012 Lake County and 5th Judicial Circuit insider authorized candidates are beginning to line up now! Very Interesting how some have already registered to run but keeping that top secret because they don’t want the word to get on the street that the incumbent is not running and they are the “anointed ones” of the inner circle!
Public Defender – Michael Graves qualified in April to run for this job! Rumors have been flowing around the courthouse for 2 years that they were just going to give it to him! The next best thing is just keep it quite and everyone will think Skipper Babb is running again. People don’t like to run against incumbents period! When you lose in Lake County you have to move! They don’t take it kindly!
States Attorney – No one will ever run against Bradley King. He’s the man, the power to take down important politicians and/or turn them loose like he did Buddy Dyer!
Sheriff – Only the real insiders know about this one. He has brought great scrutiny to Lake County! The powers that be are looking for his replacement. But, it has to be the right person. One who like the hog in the breakfast meal is “totally committed.” What the power is saying for sure is both the man and his second in command have way to much baggage, they fear the bubble will burst and soon!
Property Appraiser – Havill is a fighter and has already plumped down a $200 thousand war chest to ward off the competition of former senator Cary Baker. Baker is the selected choice of the powerhouse and $200 thousand is nothing. Havill has always been a loose cannon. Even Bob Mckee can’t control Havill. Remember the spat they had when McKee bought Havill new furniture for his new office! Havill really needs to go now, like Alan Hays his tongue is his worst problem. He puts that in gear before he does his brain! What the people of Lake County don’t need is another career politician like Cary Baker in a lifetime position! We need some good honest people to come forward and challenge these insider clones!
Tax Collector – There is a couple of people talking about running against Bob McKee. One of them said if they decide to do so they are ordering bullet proof vests and body guards! It sounds like this goon would like to make everyone think you can’t get anywhere in local county politics without his nod! You have to give him credit though. He runs everything that the other politicians will allow him to run. If they don’t play his game he gets really cocky! Sounds like he just hasn’t met the right person yet! Like Ed Havill’s McKee’s job is wide open for an honest party to step up to the plate! The people know exactly what these goons have been doing for years and the people are tired of it!
Supervisor of Elections – Recently there was some lady on Ralph Smith’s Roundtable show that has been put up to run against Emogene Stegall. The entire show he called her by her first name and never once mention he last name so, it sounded like even Ralph the great wasn’t supporting her! He had better be careful he’ll lose those brownie points for the lake Jail vehicle tires and maintenance dollars! Not worth the gamble since no one is going to beat Ms. Stegall as long as she wants to keep that job! Honest pays off and she is the only honest politician in Lake County. I am surprised someone didn’t nominate her for that honest politician thing they were talking about on the right side!
Commission Candidates – Like the Mike Graves deal everyone has known Tim Sullivan was the insider pick to replace Jennifer Hill. I am sure Cadwell and Minkoff would love to replace Jimmy Conner, but who will they anoint? I think that’s why they worked so hard to move his district away from his home! Not to worry about that if they want them bad enough they can move like Sean Parks did!
It has been a very stressful year for Lake County’s movers and shakers with a lot going on behind the scenes. Given the economy and the millions and millions of dollars these goons have appropriated to good causes outside the realm of reality while knowing even though they are well connected they are also under constant recorded and documented scrutiny!
Soon all this hard work of many people will begin to pay off. The real outsiders also with money backers will begin to come forth. It won’t be a pretty sight this time! The facts are voluminous, criminal, ugly, yet legible and designed for even the lazy and ignorant to absorb! Yes! Some even comes from former disgruntled employee’s! Some from taxpayers who are tired of being victims of corruption! And much of it comes directly from current employee’s who feel they have no other choice but stand and fight for right because they are totally vested in Lake County and refuse to run.
This political year will not be controlled by the “insider’s spinners.” The facts in all cases will prevail. The guilty will be brought forth to face the charges brought against. They will be sentenced to the fullest extent of the law! Even though elected officials all the way to Tallahassee and Washington, DC have made legislation to protect and condone their organized corruption activities. there are no crimes outside the crime of murder which can be as heinous as the crimes committed by elected and hired government officials against the people and the people funds! LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE AWARDED OVER $117,000 IN GRANT FUNDING!
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce that it has been awarded over $117,000 in federal grant funding after applying for the funds through three different grant programs in July. The agency applied for the grants so that new weapons, vehicles, and bullet-proof vests could be purchased.
On September 1, 2011, the agency was awarded $63,744 through the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant program of the U.S. Department of Justice for the purchase of three new patrol vehicles.
On September 8, $50,581 dollars were awarded for the purchase of new tasers. This award was also through the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant program. The tasers that will be purchased will be a newer model with improved accuracy and a back-up shot capability that allows for a quicker discharge, a feature that would be especially advantageous for deputies during confrontations with multiple suspects.
On October 13, the agency received $2,833 through the Bulletproof Vest Partnership, also through the Department of Justice, to be applied towards the purchase of new bullet-proof vests. This amount will cover the cost of five new vests.

This department is run by crooked and unethical administrators. If someone wants to ruin their life, just run out in front of a moving bus, it’s faster and less painful.
The people who have lied and cheated the most are all in the administrative offices, Ed, Vern, Andy and Jan. Let’s not forget they are guarded by Kris Kollgaard and the present commissioners. Look how many employees in less than a year are no longer employed. Let’s see if the officers on medical leave now will be terminated because they run out of FMLA. Everyone knows this is covered by Hippa, but their timesheets are public records.
Then why is Ty Miller running for office again, you would think he knows he is a burden on the city due to the fact he has to be picked up by Vern and driven to meetings due to his health issues, which is a burden on the taxpayers. But, our town manager states it’s better to have him at a meeting sleeping than not. Come on people wake up!!! He wakes up long enough to vote and goes back to sleep.
Ruth Kussard also has a personal driver, Phil. Who is this old guy, the answer, a no body. He likes to act like he has money and pitch fits in meetings only because he is lonely and they allow it. Ruth started out to be pretty good and got caught up in the power. She needs to remember the people that helped her get into office are the ones she later screwed over. Is this what we want for a commisssioner? And don’t forget we have the naughty boy! What the ****! Just what I want to see online when I look up city commissioners. Have you really looked at the commission, their all older than dirt, why can’t we attract anyone younger? Because we are surrounded by a wrinkle ranch and they don’t want anyone with modern ideas to be brought in to their area. The town is not going to grow any longer because there are no new ideas from the old, dust covered commission.
The town manager doesn’t have the education to do her job which is to bring growth to our area, so they want to form a committee to do her job. What an idea let’s let someone else do everyone’s job. Form a committee, to form a committee to make Kollgaard look good in her job. And don’t worry it will only cost the town a few thousand dollars at the taxpayers cost. Remember the town’s insurance has gone skyhigh, because Kollgaard doesn’t know how to do her job, it’s personal to her and everyone can be replaced at a cost to the town and citizen’s within.
Well remember, it’s almost time to get out there and support your canidate for this year. Next year is a whole new game.
I also am a longtime resident of Fruitland Park, I too feel the city commission should get a grip on the finances of our city, instead of leaving in the hands of the incompetent town manager. Why are we trying to buy a power plant from Leesburg and have to then open a whole new department to waste more of our tax dollars. Yes, it would create more jobs at a time when people in our area need more jobs. We can’t hardly pay the ones we have now.
Then the town manager feels he can spend our money without anyone knowing. Read the notes from the commission meetings and projects that have been approved and then completed, but the funds were not there or he borrows from one account to cover the project then adds it to a hardship note from the state. Why didn’t he know this or the finance director or even the town clerk, before the work was started. The answer, the idiot in charge has no business being the town manager. Don’t even bother complaining to a commissioner, they don’t want to upset the applecart because of so many unfinished projects and would not know where to start to straighten them out.
Why do we tolerate this? Why do we set back and watch it happen? Why is there not a limit to the terms of our commissioners? Our mayor has no clue how to do his job, it’s time he is gone and let new ideas and blood in the city. They have proven to us they can’t handle our money, so it’s time to replace them. Yes, some of them are not due for a few years, while some are due next year. Come to meetings, get involved with our city events. Make sure they know we are watching them.
Fruitland Park recently voted to raise its millage rate to compensate for the loss of revenue due to lower property values. Their justification, in part, is so they can give the City Employees a raise because they haven’t had one in three years and deserve it. That is a “want” rather than a “need” in an economic time in which we can’t afford “wants”.. There was no discussion as to how this may be a burden on the tax payers. I’m thinking the tax payers need a break and deserve it too!
What even happened to that honest politician and/or bureaucrat contest? Did everyone decide to stipulate that’s an oxymoron? Apparently so! But them again maybe they couldn’t find any judges qualified to know the difference!
With the government broke and getting broker daily Public Defender is one worthless money eating thing we need to abolish anyway. These people go out and sell millions of dollars worth of drugs and get a taxpayer paid for free lawyer. Most of the time all they do is recycle these criminals over and over for more county probation checks anyway! It don’t take a law degree to give someone an address to the probation office! What ever happened to all the lawyers that belonged to the “bar” taking turns defending these people what they called “pro bono?” All them civil rights people started making taxpayers provide free lawyers and the police reading people their rights to have a free one if they couldn’t afford one. The police don’t use Miranda anymore so why is it we still have to pay for the free lawyers?
He needs Retirement and bennies like insurance! His poor abused body is probably failing! He can’t save no money with those expensive habits he has! The Florida Bar should have a retirement fund for old “liars” but they don’t So his friends want to transition him into this mediocre salary government job with bennies for a few years, then it will be out to pasture.
The folks around Tavares are just glad he’s becoming a politician and loses his rights of protection from the truth being told about him. One thing won’t change he’ll take the cases and drag them out for a while and then plea them to something. Remember he was Bruce Duncan’s lawyer. Not that he stood a chance with thousands of eveys watching them. Problem is those eyes are not going anywhere they wil be watching 24/7 forever from now on!

On April 4, 2011 Michael Graves, Esquire filed to run for the office of Public Defender for the 5th Judicial Circuit of Florida! Is this a secret election? For the life of me I don’t recall seeing any media releases on this matter. Rumors have been flying around for a couple of years now that current Public Defender Skip Babb was going to retire and have Michael Graves appointed Public Defender. Typically lawyers don’t run against incumbents for any of these jobs because if the lose them have to move! The secret is when insiders know the incumbent is not going to run, they file the replacement they want to have the job, then set back and keep quite! No competition and their man is in the saddle!
So, for anyone who cares out there in the legal world, there is a public defender job opening in the entire 5th judicial circuit! It’s open house for all to apply! Or, just let the insiders in Tavares fill it with “their man” like they always do.

Cannon stashes $665,000 RPOF money for safekeeping (HUM!)
Concerned about spending at the Republican Party of Florida, incoming House Speaker Dean Cannon transferred $665,000 from the party’s coffers into a separate political committee called the Florida Liberty Fund.
The web site for the Florida Liberty Fund shows a transfer of $555,000 from the RPOF into the committee on Jan. 5 — the day RPOF Chairman Jim Greer announced he was stepping down amid allegations of using party money for personal expenses — and another $100,000 one week later.Cannon, along with other members of the Republican leadership in Tallahassee, are key fundraisers for the RPOF. “The speaker designate has the obligation to help elect Republican House members, and moving the money to the (committee) was part of his plan
for ensuring success in the 2010 election,” said Andy Palmer, the state party’s director of House campaigns. Public records show the committee was created on Nov. 17. Cannon is listed as the director. Harkley Thornton, an Orlando fundraiser and former board member of the South Florida Water Management District appointed by Jeb Bush, is listed as the chairman.
